We are Proud: International Women’s Day 2020
With the spotlight on International Women’s Day 2020 we are proud of our fantastic team.
The Park Lane Group stands out in an industry [construction] in which women typically make up only 12% of the workforce, whilst as few as 4% hold skilled trade roles.
In contrast, our balanced team has women enjoying and excelling in roles across the company, which is led by our managing director Sue McGreevy.
According to Sue: “I didn’t set out to hire women or achieve a specific gender balance but neither did I have an automatic expectation that the candidates would or should be male and perhaps that is key … I look for individuals who can bring in particular skills and experience and complement our team. I would hope that we have established a supportive and forward-thinking environment that serves all our employees and the company as we grow together.”
Sue’s own career path to a senior Board level position within the construction and housebuilding sector has seen her move from accountancy, where she gained her ACA private practice qualification, to South East Water where she rose to the position of Finance Manager. She subsequently joined The Park Lane Group in 2003 as Finance Controller and quickly made an impression within the business, improving processes and procedures to drive quality and service improvements across the company.
Without prior experience in construction or property management Sue set about building her own knowledge via training, speaking with mentors, reading widely and simply ‘getting involved’ across such areas as; site and project management within construction, property management, including maintenance, legal and land acquisition, plus HR and recruitment, sales and marketing.
Taking on increasingly wider operational matters and responsibilities, Sue was appointed to the Board within just three years as Financial Director in 2006. She was appointed Managing Director in 2014 and now manages the company’s day-to-day operational activities with its longer term strategic planning.
