Charity: We’re Supporting ManKind in Memory of Steve Garner

We’re so pleased to be supporting the Eastbourne-based mental health support group, ManKind CIC, in more ways than one.

ManKind helps men who are experiencing mental health difficulties by providing a safe space to talk without judgement, along with counselling support.

Set up in January 2020 following the death of Steve Garner, a friend and colleague of The Park Lane Group, ManKind’s priority is to remove the stigma attached to poor mental health and to stop men from regarding suicide as their only option.

It is a sad fact that on average two men working in the building and construction industry take their lives every day. Helping to raise funds to provide counselling for men who live and work here in Eastbourne is therefore important to us.

Golf Day Sponsorship for ManKind

A golf day is being held on September 10th, which is World Suicide Prevention Day, to raise funds for ManKind in memory of Steve.

It will be hosted at Willingdon Golf Club in Eastbourne, and we are sponsoring two teams’ entry plus the 18th hole. The day will be preceded by a charity auction and 3-course meal at the Club on 9th too, creating an additional fundraising opportunity.

Thames Path Challenge Sponsorship for ManKind

This month will also see Julie Bennett take part in the Thames Path Challenge for ManKind. She is aiming to complete a 100km walk within just two days.  A further substantial donation from The Park Lane Group for her challenge has helped Julie meet her £1,000 target and spur her along in her training.

Having self-funded her place, 100% of the money she has raised will go to ManKind.

Since its inception last year, over 70 men have benefitted from ManKind’s weekly meet-ups over Zoom, whilst six men are currently receiving more specific counselling support.
