The Incredible AJBell Alpine Challenge
Angus Jeffery of Landscape Visual took on the AJ Bell Alpine Challenge 2018 in January with the support of The Park Lane Group and further sponsors. This huge challenge sees teams ski or snowboard the vast Portes du Soleil ski area in Morzine, France, over two action-packed days to raise money for the charity ‘Snow-Camp’.
According to Angus: “Thank you very much for your generous sponsorship. We managed a long way (214km!) but not quite far enough to win. As well as distance, there was a waypoint component which required careful planning and strategy. We were doing well on this until we got lost for a few hours in some of the whitest white-out conditions I have ever experienced. We just made our way through the fog to catch the last lift with 2 minutes to spare, also saving a long taxi ride from Switzerland back round the valleys to France.
“One of the corporate sponsors required each team to carry a toy polar bear; as I was the sole person competing on a snowboard, my team-mates kindly elected me bear-carrier. Surprising how many people want to talk to you when you carry a bear!”
Now in its 9th year, the event continues to grow and succeeded in raising over £50,000 for the charity this year. The money raised will support Snow-Camp’s bid to become a national charity and enable the organisation to work with more inner-city young people across the UK.
